Conferencing and Informal CirculationConferencing Professor James Levin of the University of Illinois has put together some good tips for making conference presentations. Norma Scagnoli, a program coordinator for the CTER online Masters degree
program at the University of Illinois, also has some
great tips. Informal networking of prepublication papers As noted above, this is the area where newer technologies have made a major impact. In the past, colleagues exchanged prepublication papers (or preprints) by post. Now they are much more likely to circulate their work by email or posting the paper on the web. Almost all the technologies discussed below can be used for informal networking as well as presentation in more structured settings.
Slideshow TechnologiesThese technologies are essentially a replacement for the older overhead and 35mm slide projectors. They allow the researcher to create slides on a computer and display them to a large audience (using an LCD projector) as well as distributing them on CDs or on the Web.These technologies have several advantages over the older slide presentation methods:
PowerPoint The dominant software for producing and
viewing these slides is Microsoft PowerPoint, a component of Microsoft
Office. Corel Presentation/Quattro ProCorel Presentation is part of the WordPerfect Office suite. This product is similar to PowerPoint. |
